Kinja'd!!!

This is a question that pretty much all of us have contemplated. And I'm talking Mega Millions or Powerball money here, so like $60 Million after taxes with the lump sum distribution option (the smart play for responsible people these days, with interest rates and ordinary income tax rates being so low).

I can tell you that, while images of Aventadors and 458s dance through my head, I would not buy one. Why, you ask? Simple: I'd be afraid to drive those cars. Not only do I understand how much money it would cost to repair the vehicle if I got, say, a DOOR DING, but I understand how much depreciation occurs with every single mile tacked onto the odometer. It's sickening. And even though I'd have a ton of money in the bank (in an investment account, really), I would like to KEEP a ton of money in my investment account. And you don't do that by haphazardly throwing money at depreciating assets.

Kinja'd!!!

My wife would probably get a brand new Cadillac Escalade with some low grade security measures. Things like Kevlar-lined doors and bulletproof glass would be about all we would need. It would be nice, but nothing over-the-top that screams "we're worth $60 Million plus capital gains".

So what crazy car would I get myself? What would I DD, and what would I weekend? The answers to this question will be shocking to most of you, so prepare yourselves.

My Daily:

Kinja'd!!!

The Tesla Model S P85D. That's right, I want Elon's D. Badly. I don't drive a lot during the week, so I wouldn't need anything with more range. Zero to Sixty in 3.2? 155 MPH top speed? NO GAS? Who among you would say "no"?! It's an awesome car. Gimme gimme gimme.

Now for the second car. This is where most of you will cock your head to the side and think that I'm insane.

You ready?

Kinja'd!!!

I'll take a Cadillac CTS-Vsport. Yes, I said it. I want an American luxury car that is fast enough, gets good gas mileage, and can take me from Houston to Austin/Dallas/New Orleans in style without the fear of running out of e-power. My DD would have supercar performance already; why would I need a supercar? I wouldn't.

Even though I just said I would spend damn near $300k on new cars for my wife and I, some of you will scoff. "But Pat, Ferrari! Lamborghini! BUGATTI!!!" I say screw that. I'd rather be able to buy some nice cars forever than some exotic cars for a few years (until the money runs out, which it will if I treat my money like that).

I'd rather focus more money buying a 400 acre ranch that I'd name "Huevos Rancheros" and a condo in the Caymans.

If I win, I'm buying an entire neighborhood in Detroit, bulldozing it, building a proper race track, drag strip and a gigantic mansion that would esssentially be an oppo commune.

Not a bad idea, and it would only set you back about $10k!

If I was flush with 60 mil I'd buy a modern exotic and DD the shit out of it, until it had a ton of miles on the clock, covered in stone chips and door dings. Just for the fun of it.

If I won, two cars would immediately be added to our fleet: A blue Raptor and a black Challenger Hellcat. My partner would probably end up with a Macan. My mom covets my Fiat, but I think I would trade it for an Abarth 500 and give it to her.

I wouldn't even want to start that trend. I'd buy an exotic if my net worth went into nine digits, but otherwise nope.

Your choices are very nice. It tells me that you probably won't ever run out of money.

60 mil is more than enough for me to not give a shit about one 200k car. I'm a compulsive saver now but I still like to use the stuff I have, it doesnt get babied.

I could live very very nicely for a decade on 1 mil so 60 mil over a lifetime is plenty to have fun with and not care too much.

If I won the lottery:

House on Cape Cod
House in Colorado
House in Austin (because COTA)

Aston Martin V12 Vantage
Porsche 997.2 Carrera S

A $50 Million, moderately conservative portfolio would allow you to get an allowance of about $125k per month without ever running out of money. So you could spend a lot more.

If I won the lottery, I'd buy a nice place with a big garage to start off with. Then, my first car purchase would be a shit car so I could properly teach myself how to drive stick.

But after, I would pick up either a V60 Polestar or E63 AMG Wagon to fulfill the required "because wagon" and a new Mustang GT. After that? No idea.

If I won I'd save some money, invest some, build decent size house with enormous garage and build all my dream project cars. If I had money left after that I'd probably buy a pre-'87 Countach 5000QV and some other cars.

Well, we'd probably end up with a nice house with at least 4 garage spaces. Then we'd travel A LOT. And I'd probably change cars frequently if I had the money, so I'm not sure it'd last as long as you'd think.

I would buy 1 rs200. 2 lotus espirit 3 murcielago 3 diablo 4 458 5. I would keep buying many things. If you won 60 million you can easily buy, live, and keep those cars up.

I think you're missing the point, I want to come screaming in, in a couple of C-130's full of Eurotrash oppo's, blaring 'Born In The USA' - doors open, wheels spinning, rubber burning, Alfa's exploding - straight onto a race track filled with US horsepower and live rear axles and burgers and an American flag with Welcome To Motor City spray painted across it

I would get one of these in a heartbeat. Yeah some people want Lambos and Bentleys if they hit the lottery, not me.

For me a Tesla P85D would be a great choice for sedan, F Type Coupe for a 2 door and a Range Rover Sport or ML 63 for SUVing. Closest I'd get to a supercar would be Battery Tenders setup with either an SLS or BMW i8.

Kinja'd!!!1

I'd take the i8, but that's just me.

More importantly, starting off your wealthy lifestyle with potentially $1 Million+ worth of car purchases is a slippery slope to more huge, unwise purchases. I have personally seen someone go through $60 Million in 10 years and become forced into Bankruptcy. If he had it all to do over again...

If I'm going to make huge purchases, they'll be for assets that appreciate over time, like land, real estate, and certain bits of art.

Beach house in Hawaii. 2-3mil

Home on a lake in New England with private racetrack -10 mil

20 car garage/workshop -2 mil

Then troll hemmings for cool old cars.

Lincoln Continental 61-64, Ferrari 308, Morgan 3 wheeler, Citreon DS, Honda S2000. Supercars bore me. As I feel I could never be trusted with that amount of power. I'd rather have 20 50k cars than 1 crazy expensive one. Only crazy expensive one I would want is a Ferrari 330GT. V-12 Mmmm.

what I find interesting is the people who I have met that are crazy rich, most don't want to show off that wealth. One drove a suburban and the other a navigator.

Why no lump sum? You could distribute the money to yourself in equal payments if you took the 60 mln, took five out at initial (21 year old mindset) then put the 55 in an ETF?

Not no lump sum. YES lump sum! It's smarter to take it at one time right now if (and ONLY if) you can show restraint with the money.

Yup have to be smart with your money, my mother's cousin hit the NY lottery back in the mid 90s for I think like 20 million and were broke in 5 years. They were taking lavish vacations, buying jewelry, and leaving $100 tips everywhere.

Stupid idiots.

I like your choices. I love the idea of naming a ranch, "Heuvos Rancheros."

I would get my wife whatever she wanted. Right now, that would probably be a Plumb Crazy Purple Challenger. For myself, I would also get a CTS-V sport. I need a truck too, and I think a loaded F-150 super crew with the 3.5 Ecoboost, towing package, and the 6.5' bed would do nicely.

I would buy some land in the country, and build a nice, modestly sized ranch house (~2500 sq-ft) with solar and geothermal systems.

I'd also put up a big barn, and slowly start filling it with used tools, off eBay and Craigslist (the hunt is half the fun). I'd set up wood working, machining, and fabrication sections. Then I could slowly start building all the insane classic cars that have been rattling around in my head for years. Things like a WWII era Jeep, built for road racing. And a '65-69 Corvair with a complete drive train e suspension from a turbo Cobalt SS swapped into the back.

Fuck that, buy Detroit City Airport. Built in track, long straightaways, security fencing. Have races on weekends and become the social center of Motown.
